Class 45 45013 and 45114 pictured both withdrawn at Whitemoor Yard, March in 1991.
Starting in 1979 I have amassed approximately 2000 images of railways and related steam, diesel and electric traction across the country. Starting off with an instamatic camera and progressing to 35mm in the early 1980’s. I must have other pictures somewhere, but this site catalogues the 1900+ that I have scanned from negatives that have survived being kept in the garage for the last 30 odd years.
Some of the Black and White pictures were from a brief foray into developing and processing my own negatives with the help of the school darkroom!
It reflects the forever changing scene of British Railways – the gradual withdrawal of the locomotives that displaced steam as part of the Governments modernisation plan in the 1950’s and 1960’s. ‘The Deltic’s’ and ‘The Peaks’ just two types of engines I liked to capture.
Living in North Yorkshire, most of the photographs reflect this area and in particular Knaresborough as that’s where I lived for nearly 10 years. The East Coast Mainline was a favourite haunt as was BREL Doncaster.
As our own vehicles were purchased, that gave us more scope and a Sunday trip to Toton via, Knottingley, Shirebrook, Barrow Hill and Tinsley was a regular occurrence.
More recently railway outings have been limited to Heritage Railway events like Diesel Galas and the odd railtour.
I will continue to add content as often as I can.
